Having taken the supermarket sector by storm in the last few years, Aldi’s continuous commitment to quality and the environment go far beyond their groceries. Aldi has placed special care in environmental impact, including all their buildings and logistics, and their operations have been carbon neutral since January 2019.
Project Year: 2022
Product: FAAC A1400 AIR Sliding Door Operator with FAAC TK35 Profiles Door System
Architect: The Harris Partnership
Contractor: CTM Management
Project Background: Having worked in partnership since 2019 with a collaborative approach, and knowing one of Aldi’s priorities is to minimise carbon footprint, FAAC Entrance Solutions proposed an upgrade to our A1400 system with TK35 profile as a way to further the efficiency of their already existing dual draught lobby setup. This double entrance/exit setup allows each lobby first to facilitate accessibility and people flow across the business, but also to open at different times whilst keeping the elements out, which maintains the temperature of the store. A steady internal climate is both energy efficient and keeps keeping heating and cooling costs down.
Solution: Being able to demonstrate how the FAAC sensor technology allowed partial opening of the doors saved even more energy, Aldi Battlefield was fitted with the A1400 Sliding Operator. This meant the store would have the same type of traffic friendly and efficient draught lobby, but creating an even more sustainable entrance with tangible cost savings. Furthermore, the operator was paired with the aesthetically pleasing slimline aluminium alloy TK35 door profiles, this profile’s labyrinth system consists of two vertical profiles and a brush that intersect when closing which further prevent heat dispersion.
Locally Manufactured: Fabricating the door system in the UK in partnership with our sister company FAAC Doors & Shutters, allowed us to have better control of not only the design lead times, but also clear visibility of product origin and lifecycle. This is additionally beneficial to supply Aldi Ireland sites as part of our simplified export process.
Innovation: Part of striving to this continuous improvement means that we already have new ideas to further optimize Aldi’s entrances, so our future collaborations will see us implementing new systems introducing an air barrier to add an extra layer of heat control to the stores.
Service: The peace of mind of our partners is our main priority, which is why our Service Agreements are such a big part of our offering. With 24/7 365 nationwide coverage, our dedicated 50+ engineer force ensures that any maintenance and repairs for Aldi are taken care off to ensure minimal disruption to their operation.
