Located in Douglas, Lanarkshire, Cairn Lodge Services work closely with a community of farmers and makers across Scotland. Built next to the eighteenth-century gatehouse of the now-derelict Douglas Castle, the station is part of Westmorland Family, a family-run motorway services. Together with their sister stations, they were named the UK’s top three service stations by Which? in 2021.

Product: ASSA ABLOY RD3 Revolving Door

Project Background: We were approached by our customer to provide a retrofit solution to an existing revolving door which was faulty, leading to frequent malfunctions and operational inefficiencies. This not only compromised the security and climate control of the building but also caused inconvenience for the occupants and visitors. To address these issues, it was imperative to replace the defective revolving door with a new, reliable solution. A critical constraint in this project was the necessity to reuse the existing ground ring. By doing so, we aimed to avoid the need for extensive and costly groundworks, thereby minimising disruption to the building’s operations and reducing overall project costs. This approach required careful planning and precise engineering to ensure the new revolving door would seamlessly integrate with the existing infrastructure while meeting all safety and performance standards.
Solution:
To address the challenges presented by the faulty revolving door and the need to reuse the existing ground ring, we implemented a comprehensive and tailored solution.
First, our team of experienced product experts conducted a thorough site survey to assess the existing infrastructure and identify the precise requirements for the new revolving door. This detailed assessment enabled us to design and custom build a revolving door that would seamlessly integrate with the existing ground ring, ensuring optimal performance and compatibility.
Collaborating closely with our client, we coordinated the arrangement of the necessary fixing points for our floor ring. This collaboration was crucial in ensuring that all structural and functional requirements were met without the need for extensive groundworks, thereby preserving the integrity of the existing ground ring.
To minimise disruption to the building’s operations, we adhered to a strict deadline and carefully planned the installation process. By efficiently managing the timeline and coordinating with all stakeholders, we ensured a smooth transition to the new revolving door with minimal impact on daily activities.
The successful implementation of this project not only resolved the issues caused by the faulty revolving door but also enhanced the overall safety, security, climate control, and user experience of the facility.
